Derek Gilliland focuses on trying cases. While he oversees the firm’s
intellectual property litigation practice, Derek handles all types of
civil lawsuits including personal injury, products liability, and
breach of contracts.
In 2013, Derek was co-lead trial counsel for the team that obtained a
$95,795,507 verdict in federal court in Tacoma, Washington for Syntrix
Biosystems. This is the largest patent infringement verdict in the
State of Washington and was the 20th largest verdict in the United
States during 2013 according to ALM. The verdict was settled on appeal
Derek has successfully argued before the Texas Supreme Court on behalf
of a personal injury plaintiff in the case of Daughters of Charity
Health Services of Waco v. Linnstaedter, 226 S.W.3d 409 (Tex. 2007).
Derek is a frequent seminar speaker for the Texas State Bar, AIPLA,
and other professional organizations.
