Bio

Karl Rupp joined Sorey & Hoover LLP in 2022 and focuses his nationwide practice on all manner of complex civil litigation. Equally adept before juries and appellate courts, Karl has tried more than 50 cases to verdict in venues across the United States and prevailed in numerous important appellate matters, resulting in published opinions in favor of his clients in the United States Courts of Appeal for the Fifth, Ninth and Federal Circuits.

As a trial lawyer, Karl was an integral part of a multi-firm team which litigated the Data Treasury cases against the financial industry in the United States and Canada over the course of more than a decade, in the process securing hundreds of millions of dollars in royalty payments from infringing banks. His wide-ranging experience has also encompassed the successful representation of scores of plaintiffs in patent and securities class action litigation, merger and acquisition disputes, catastrophic injury cases, whistleblower suits and product liability matters. The first decade of Karl’s practice was spent honing his trial skills before federal juries and judges in California and Texas as a federal public defender.

Raised in Colombia, South America, Karl speaks Spanish fluently. He is a graduate of Baylor University and The University of San Diego School of Law. Karl has taught trial advocacy at USD School of Law and at Southern Methodist University, and he is admitted to practice in Texas, California and Washington.
